The Eccentric South

Give us a yell

Why we Do what we do

This is the easy part - We love the South and we love to share it.

No matter where we go or what we are doing, there’s usually a story behind the things we see and the places we visit. And that story is just as important.

We are storytellers and what better place to find those stories than in the South! It’s unlike any other place in the world. It’s weird, strange, it’s a little crazy, it’s amazing, it’s charming, it’s inviting, and it’s home.

Come join us as we go in search of the True South.

Rio Vista on the Halifax

Calle Grande

Ormond Beach, FL

Ruins

The arched ruins resting along side a drainage canal are the last remains of what was to be the amazing development of Rio Vista on the Halifax. Built originally in 1924, they were the grand entrance for the new tourist community. This community was going to be complete with winter cottages, canals for canoes and gondolas rides, the Riviera Hotel, a zoo, polo fields, a hunt club, and so much more.

And then, the stock market crashed followed quickly by a devastating hurricane.

The Riviera Hotel remains and is now an assisted living center.

And then, there are the arches.

El Spotros

Virgil - Spot - Daniel

Folk Artist

Prescott, AR

You ever go out looking for something only to find the unexpected? We were out in Prescott AR when we spotted a ghost sign. Of course, we had to take a look. So we turned and twisted through the streets and alleys to get to the sign. It’s amazing by the way!

But on the door of an old falling down building, we spotted a small sign that said “art gallery”. No question what had to happen next-

more twisting and turning through the side streets and alleys until we found the trailer! Oh what a glorious trailer it is! But then there’s the golf cart, and a trash can, and oh my - a building!

Meet the art of Spot Daniel or as he use to call his work - El Spotro.

Virgil Daniel was born in 1920, he enlisted into the Navy, he got married, he had a family, and he retired. And at the age of 66, he became an artist.
